917th Wing welcomes new commander

3/8/2010 - Barksdale Air Force Base, La. -- The 917th Wing on Barksdale Air Force Base, La., welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony at Hoban Hall on Barksdale, Saturday at 9:30 am.

Col. John J. Mooney III accepted command of the unit from Brig. Gen. Edmund D. Walker during the ceremony.

Maj. Gen. Frank Padilla, commander of the 10th Air Force at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base, Fort Worth, Texas, acted as the presiding official.

Also in attendance were fellow Barksdale commanders, Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz, commander of Air Force Global Strike, and Col. Steven Basham, commander of the 2nd Bomb Wing.

"I'm humbled and honored to be given this opportunity," said Col. Mooney. "I look forward to being a part of team Barksdale."

Col. Mooney returns to the 917th Wing from the 10th AF where he served as the assistant vice commander and chief of staff.
